Screens

The difference
75″ is 36% bigger diagonally — but 86% more screen area.
Screen A
55″ 16:9
About 122 cm wide × 68 cm tall — 9 sq ft of screen
Screen B
75″ 16:9
About 166 cm wide × 93 cm tall — 16.7 sq ft of screen

Bigger than it looks

A 75-inch TV doesn't sound much bigger than a 55-inch one — until you see that it's about 86% more screen. Compare two screens by real area, or settle the classic pizza question: is one 18-inch pizza more food than two 12-inch ones?

It answers questions like 'how much bigger is a 75-inch TV than a 55-inch' and 'is one 18-inch pizza more than two 12-inch pizzas' — comparing by actual area, not just the diagonal. The answer usually surprises: screen area grows with the square of the diagonal, and pizza works exactly the same way.

Good to know

  • Area grows with the square of size: 36% more diagonal means about 86% more screen area.
  • One 18-inch pizza actually beats two 12-inch pizzas — roughly 254 vs 226 square inches.
  • Screens are rectangles: the aspect ratio (16:9, 21:9…) decides how much of the diagonal is width.

How it works

  1. 1Pick Screens mode for TVs, monitors and phones — or Pizza mode.
  2. 2Enter the two sizes (and quantities, for pizza).
  3. 3See the percentage difference in diagonal and in area.
  4. 4Add prices in pizza mode to see which option gives the most pizza per unit of money.
